Apply For A Visitor Visa (Visit visa)

apply for a visitor visa to Canada

The Visit Visa usually allow people to visit countries for a different purpose. However, these are non-immigrant visas, and the stays are usually temporary. Unlike the permanent resident status, which allows the immigrants to stay permanently, the visit visas have a certain duration.

There can be various reasons for obtaining visit visas, whereas tourism is the most common among them. However, the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is used for students, work permits, and travelers.

    • Canada’s Visitor Visa:

Canada’s visitor visa is also referred to as Temporary Resident Visa. It is an official document that allows the visitor to enter Canada. Travelers from various countries require a visitor visa in order to travel to Canada.

Most countries are exempted from obtaining a visitor visa. They can directly visit Canada. Still, if the applicant is not from a visa-exempt country, they must obtain a visit visa.

    • Duration

The average duration of a visitor visa can last up to 6 months.  This allows most visitors to stay in Canada for six months.

Moreover, upon entering Canada, the border service can also increase or decrease the duration from 6 months. Moreover, the visitors are also issued with a visitor record that states their leave date.

    • Extension

Single-entry or multiple-entry visitor visas enable foreign individuals to stay in Canada lawfully for up to six months at a time. Their legal status will expire after this time, and they will be forced to leave Canada.

Foreign nationals who want to stay longer than six months must apply while their temporary residence status is still active. They must request an extension at least 30 days before the original expiration date. If their existing visa expires while their extension application is being processed, they are permitted to remain in Canada until a decision is made.

    • Types of Visitor Visas

There are two types of visitor visas:

    • Single Entry Visas

With this, foreign nationals can enter Canada one time only.

    • Multiple Entry Visas

With this visa, foreign nationals can enter and leave Canada as long as they want to; there is no obligation to stay in it as the visa remains valid. However, there is no choice for these visas, and the types are allotted automatically by the border management.

The duration for a multiple entry visa can last from 6 months to 10 years, as long as their visa remains valid. If the visitors possess another status document, such as a study or work permit, and they are otherwise visa-exempt, they will be given a visiting visa that will allow them to enter Canada. This is usually a multiple-entry visa.

The visitors will not need to apply for a new visitor visa to re-enter Canada if they want to briefly leave the country for studies or a temporary job as long as permission and visa are both current.

    • Who Needs Visitor Visa?

Everyone entering Canada needs a visitor visa except Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

It is also essential to know that Canadian permanent residents are not allowed to apply for a visitor visa even if their Permanent Resident Card is expired. If so, they should apply for a Permanent resident travel document (PRTD) instead.

Moreover, for those persons who are visiting Canada for business purposes, they are required to obtain a business visitor visa.

    • Types of Non-Immigrant Visas:

Apart from Canadian Immigration programs that allow foreign nationals to stay in Canada permanently, there are also non-immigrants visas. With these visas, the applicants can stay temporarily in Canada, but later they can also apply for other immigration programs.

    These visas include:

    • Canada Visitor Visa

The Canada Visitor Visa allows the foreign nationals to enter in Canada as a traveler or for visit purposes. The duration of this visa is up to 6 months. Some countries are from the visa-exempt list, meaning they do not need a visa to enter Canada.

    • Business Visitor Visa

A business visa is for those persons who are coming to Canada for their international business activities without directly entering the Canadian labour market.

    • Canada Student Visa or Study Visa

The Study visa for Canada is for the international students who are coming to Canada to study. The study permits also enable the students to pursue educational activities, including diplomas, certifications, or professional degrees.

    • Work Permit or Work Visa

The work permit is for those foreign nationals who have a valid employment offer from a Canadian employer, and they are here to work temporarily.

The super visa is for the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. With this visa, the parents or grandparents can stay in Canada. It is a multi-entry visa enabling them to enter Canada multiple times up to 10 years.
