Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP)
The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) of the Northwest Territories is an immigration programme run by Citizenship and Immigration Canada on behalf of the Northwest Territories government to expedite the processing of permanent residency applications.
The Nominee Program assists in the economic growth of the Northwest Territories by attracting competent persons to fill critical labour shortages. The Nominee Program can help firms attract and retain foreign employees and aid foreign workers, and their families establish permanent residence in the Northwest Territories.
The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) is a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) that consists of a collection of immigration pathways, providing tremendous opportunities for foreign nationals to immigrate to Canada.
The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) mainly focuses on providing employer-driven immigration streams for skilled, semi-skilled, and low-skilled occupations. Apart from employer-driven immigration streams, NTNP also has a business-driven counterpart specifically designed for entrepreneurs and business owners.
There are several immigration streams operated by the province, which are divided into three categories:
- Northwest Territories Express Entry
- Northwest Territories Employer Driven
- Northwest Territories Business Driven
Here, we will be giving a brief overview of all these categories.

Northwest Territories Express Entry:
The Northwest Territories Express Entry Stream is a golden opportunity for the skilled workers in Federal Express Entry to participate in an expedited permanent residence application. For this purpose, the candidates are required to have a job offer from an eligible employer/company of the Northwest Territories.
Applicant Requirements:
- They must provide a copy of the Express Entry pool approval letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
- Provide a valid validation code for job seekers.
- Maintain the Express Entry pool’s valid state throughout the application process.
- Meet the requirements for the Skilled Worker stream in the Northwest Territories.
- Have shown an interest in relocating to the Northwest Territories permanently.
- The applicants must have the necessary certifications or accreditations for the trade or profession.
- If applicable, they are required to meet the job’s territorial qualification, licensing, or registration requirements.
- They possess the necessary work experience for the job.
- They also need to prove that they possess enough financial or settlement assistance in the NWT.
- They are able to speak in both English and French is a must.
- The applicants should not be a refugee claimant.

Northwest Territories Employer Driven:
The Northwest Territories (Employer-Driven) streams are designed for foreign nationals with experience in different occupations to immigrate to Canada. The applicants are required to be experienced in occupations classified as National Occupational Classification (NOC) with a Skill Level 0, A, B, C, or D, along with a full-time, permanent job offer from a qualified employer/company.
When no Canadians or Canadian Permanent Residents are available in the local province, the Employer-Driven Stream is for companies who want to hire and nominate foreign nationals. Through three program categories, this stream assists firms in hiring vitally needed and talented employees and workers in obtaining Canadian Permanent Residency.
To participate in this stream, you must first have a job offer from a company in the NWT. We do not accept expressions of interest from persons who have not been offered a position, and we do not send out any application invites.

Northwest Territories Business Driven:
The Northwest Territories (Business-Driven) streams allow business owners and entrepreneurs to establish a new business in the Northwest Territories. This program welcomes applications from all economic sectors. However, businesses that provide a significant contribution to the Northwest Territories economy or develop a new product are given priority when seeking the provincial nomination.
Requirements:
- Invest a minimum of $300,000 in a new or existing firm in Yellowknife, NWT, Northwest Territories, or Yellowknife, NWT, or Yellowknife, NWT, or in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
- There is a minimum of $150,000 in capital to start or purchase a firm outside of Yellowknife, NWT’s corporate borders.
- Have a personal net worth of at least $500,000 if founding or purchasing a business inside Yellowknife, NWT’s corporate limits, or at least $250,000 if starting or buying a business outside NWT’s corporate boundaries.
- Demonstrate that they control at least one-third of the company they’re launching or purchasing. The applicant may possess less than one-third of the company if the personal equity investment is at least $1 million.
- Provide a $75,000 good faith deposit to be kept in trust and released upon successful completion of the Business Performance Agreement’s conditions;
- Achieve Canadian Language Benchmark level 4 in English or the corresponding language level in French as measured by the Niveaux de compétence Linguistique Canadiens (NCLC). IELTS and CELPIP for English and TEF for French have recognised examinations.
- Demonstrate a fair grasp and knowledge of the NWT and its economy.
- Have the required expertise and education to implement the business plan successfully. demonstrate adequate communication skills appropriate for conducting business in the NWT.
- Demonstrate the financial means to start and maintain a business and support oneself and any dependents for the duration of the BPA.
- Not be a participant in any other provincial or territorial nominee program
- Not have a current application with any other NWT Nominee Program stream.
- Being a refugee claimant is not an option. It may lead to rejection.
