    Alberta

Alberta is a Canadian province located in Western Canada. Mountains, plains, desert badlands, and extensive coniferous forests make up its terrain. There are around 600 lakes in the area, as well as abundant mineral resources. The Columbia Icefields are glaciers in the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks in the west. The Waterton Glacier International Peace Park is a biosphere reserve parallel to Canada’s southern border with the United States.

It has two main urban centers, Calgary and Edmonton, and is one of the fastest-growing provinces in the country.

Natural gas, oil, coal, minerals, and the famed Alberta oil sands are among the province’s natural resources, making it Canada’s energy province.

    • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program:

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is a business immigration program that permanently nominates people to live in Alberta. Nominees must possess skills to fill job shortages or intend to purchase or start a business in Alberta. They must be able to support their families as well. The Alberta and Canadian governments are in charge of the initiative.

If you are nominated under the program, you and your spouse or common-law partner, as well as any dependant children, may apply for permanent residence status.

Permanent residence applications are handled by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. The federal government likewise decides these applications.

    • Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program Streams:

The Alberta Opportunity Stream, Express Entry, the Self-Employed Farmer Stream, the International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, and the Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream are the five streams under which the AINP currently accepts applications.

    • The Alberta Opportunity Stream

In June 2018, the Alberta Opportunity Stream was introduced. This stream is for foreign nationals already employed in Alberta and who have received an official employment offer from their employer to remain in the province full-time.

    Requirements:

Candidates for this stream must meet several criteria, including work experience, a job offer, language fluency, and educational qualifications.

    • Work Permit Requirements

Candidates must be in possession of a legitimate temporary resident status in Canada that allows them to work.

A valid work permit must be based on either a Post-Graduate Work Permit, Positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), or LMIA exemption (International trade agreements, inter-company transferees, International Experience Canada Mobilité Francophone all qualify for LMIA exemption).

Refugees in removal proceeding or under appeal, temporary residents on a restored or implied status, and temporary residents living outside Alberta are ineligible candidates for this program.

    • Occupation Requirements

You must be employed in a qualifying occupation in Alberta to be eligible for the Alberta Opportunity Stream. The AINP covers most occupations with skill levels 0, A, B, C, and D in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Unlike several other provinces, the AINP does not prefer applicants whose professions are enumerated on a separate list. Instead, the section publishes a list of occupations that are not qualified.

Holders of a Post-Graduation Work Permit must also complete the following requirements:

Your present job must be connected to your field of study in Alberta; however, if you apply after November 2020, you may work in a job that was previously on the IRCC’s “LMIA refusal to process” list.

    • Language Requirements

It has been mandatory from January 01, 2020, that you must provide your test reports showing the following at the time of your application:

    • For candidates applying under NOC 0, A, and B, a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 5 is required for all language skills in English or French.
    • For candidates applying under NOC C and D, CLB level 4 is required for all language skills in English or French.
    • Only individuals applying under NOC code 3413 (nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service employees) must submit a CLB/NCLC level 7 language exam score in English or French for each language skill.

    • Work Experience Requirements

You must have a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months; or 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada and abroad within the previous 30 months (combination of experience gained in Alberta, Canada (outside Alberta), and/or abroad) at the time of your application.

If you are a Post-Grad Work Permit Holder, you must have a minimum of 6 months of full-time work experience within the last 18 months in your current occupation in Alberta AND in an occupation relevant to your studies at an Alberta-approved institution for an Alberta-approved certification.

Work experience must have been full-time and in the same field as your current job, and it must have been obtained in Canada. To work in your present occupation in Alberta, you must have the necessary licensing, registration, or certification.

You must have a genuine full-time job offer from an Alberta employer to work in your current occupation in Alberta and be employed full-time by that company in that occupation in Alberta.

Your employment offer in Alberta must be signed by both you and your company and must include the following:

    • Work that is both continuous and compensated
    • Full-time employment (minimum of 30 hours per week for a period of 12 months),
    • Continue to work in your current position, and
    • Work in an AINP-eligible occupation for which you have a valid work permit that meets AINP conditions.

    • Educational Requirements

It has been put into practice from January 01, 2020, that candidates must have achieved a high school diploma that meets Alberta’s requirements. If the education credential was received outside of Canada, an Educational Credential Assessment is necessary.

Holders of a Post-Graduation Work Permit must also:

    • If you were accepted and enrolled in your program prior to April 1, 2019, your credential must be awarded by an approved institution and must be one of the following:
    • A one-year certificate or post-graduate certificate is required.
    • A two-year diploma program is required.
    • Bachelor’s degree at the undergraduate level.
    • A degree, certificate, or certification at the graduate level.
    • Your credential must be on the Alberta Opportunity Stream authorized list if you are admitted and enrolled in your Alberta credential program on or after April 1, 2019.

    • Express Entry

The Alberta Express Entry Stream permits the province to recommend a small number of qualifying Express Entry applicants. The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) will choose qualified individuals from the Express Entry pool. Before applying, candidates must first receive a notification of interest. Candidates with strong ties to Alberta who can help enhance the economy and diversify the province are encouraged to apply. Graduates from other countries will also be welcomed.

    Requirements:

Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for notification of interest:

    • In the federal Express Entry pool, you must have an active Express Entry profile.
    • Work in a field that contributes to Alberta’s economic growth and diversification.
    • Have expressed an interest in relocating to Alberta permanently.
    • Have a minimum of 300 points on the Comprehensive Ranking System.
      • Factors that increase your selection chances:
    • Work experience in Alberta and/or a job offer from an Alberta employer.
    • Having completed post-secondary education in Canada.
    • Having an Alberta-based relative, such as a parent, kid, or sibling.
      • Factors that decrease your selection chances:
    • Within the following three months, your Express Entry profile will expire.
    • You have a job that isn’t eligible.

    • The Self-Employed Farmer Stream

The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) works closely with Alberta Agriculture and Forestry to oversee the Alberta Self-Employed Farmer Stream, which seeks applicants with farm management abilities and sufficient financial resources to invest in a farming enterprise in Alberta.

    • A minimum of $500,000 in capital to put into the farming business;
    • A net worth of at least $500,000 or proof of access to these funds.

    • The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream

The International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream (IGEIS) enables the respective province to nominate qualified and skilled international graduates from the province (Alberta) post-secondary institutes. The stream is for those students who wish to operate a business in Alberta in order to apply for permanent residence.
